The Urban Wildlife Stewardship Society has been a leader in science-based urban deer management. In 2018 I played an integral part in developing and organizing the camera trapping component of this project. Deer occurrence on wildlife cameras help biologists to estimate the density of deer within a study area. Pair these photos with telemetry collars for understanding deer movement, as well as individual identification tags on the collars, and we can get a very precise estimate of how many deer there are, where they are moving, and population growth rates.
